CRAMPLIFIER vs. SAUCER:
Feature / Criteria | CRAMPLIFIER | SAUCER |
---|---|---|
Use without crampons | ❌ Not possible | ✅ Possible (at your own risk – slick plates, only for non-exposed terrain) |
Mounting method | Only in sandwich mode (crampons press the plate against the boot) | Two options: Sandwich mode or Saucer mode (quick on/off without touching crampons) |
Transition speed (on/off) | Slower – you need to take off crampons to remove plates | ✅ Fast – Saucer mode allows quick transitions without removing crampons |
Crampon fixation system compatibility | Only works with semi-automatic and automatic crampons | Works with any binding type, including strap bindings (can be used with snowboard boots, mountaineering boots, etc.) |
Tooth pattern compatibility | ✅ Works with all patterns, including technical crampons with long front units | ❌ Requires tooth-free bridge – not compatible with very long front units |
Boot compatibility | Limited – must be used with boots compatible with semi-/automatic crampons | Very versatile – works with a variety of boots including soft snowboard boots, approach shoes |
Recommended for: | Float for the buck / technical crampons | Max. versatility / recommended if your crampons are compatible |
The evolution of our CRAMPLIFIER ascent plates.
The SAUCER plates can be mounted and dismounted all without touching your crampons.
This means you can have float on demand, take off the plates even on shorter sections of hardpack and put them back on for softer sections.
As the mounting and dismounting is so easy and fast, there’s no more doubting whether to leave them in the backpack or to put them on.
So far, SAUCER have been successfully used with these crampons:
– Blue Ice Harfang (including TOUR and ENDURO)
– Petzl Leopard LLF / FL
– Petzl Irvis/Hybrid (all bindings)
– Grivel Air Tech (all bindings)
– Black Diamond Serac Clip (all bindings)
– edelrid Shark Lite
– Dynafit Mezzalama & DNA & Cramp-in
– Camp Skimo Race & Skimo Nanotech
Make sure to tighten the elastic ‘No Heli Straps’ well. They take up to 115kg…
If needed, the dyneema cord can be adjusted in its length by adjusting the position of the end knots.

S+W Verdict:
“These Saucers have the ability to be put on quickly whilst already wearing you crampons. They are the best around for bootpacking up snowy colouirs. . Making life so much easier, instead of sinking into deep snow. They are very light and pack flat in your pack so you won’t even know your carrying them! This version fits great with any hard boot OR Softboot along with any ski touring specific crampons. A must have powder missions! Get in touch for more info on how to use them!”
